Shown above is Colour Story, one of my new paintings that I’ve just had framed. I loved this before it went off to the framer but I think I’m even more in love with it now. The right frame really makes a piece sing.
I was listening to an old podcast today and it was all about the ‘why’. Why paint. My answer was simple and straight to the point- because I have to create beauty. I have to make beautiful work and paint is one of my vehicles. Painting is also a release, an outcome from emotion- be it joyous, calm or questioning. I don’t have a set style yet there are similarities in all my work. I enjoy experimenting and using different materials, I have a few favourites I tend to come back to but mostly I like art to move forward and the only way to do that is to experiment.
Peat Smoke was painted at the same time but using a different colour palette. I was really enjoying painting wide and on board. I think the width lets the painting breathe and gives the landscape its space.
Both of these works are now available on my new website, I’ll pop the link below. I’ve been working on putting everything in one place- my art, antiques and ceramics, plus my love of styling and gardens. It’s more about a way of life than just a shop, I’d love to know your thoughts.
